The Senses Garden was established in 2023 to revitalise this green space for community enjoyment. The Town Council secured a £1000 grant from the South Oxfordshire District Council’s “Everyone Active” scheme to transform the area. The goal was to create a serene environment where people can connect with nature and wildlife, enhancing their well-being and mindfulness.
This project was a collaborative effort led by the Parks team with contributions from the wider community. The space includes colourful toadstools, a bug hotel, and wind chimes to make the space more inviting for children. Wild about Wallingford volunteers planted a range of bulbs, including daffodils and snowdrops. A bench, generously donated by Highcroft, St. Joseph’s Homes, offers a spot for peaceful reflection. Additionally, Wallingford 1155 donated plants for the bedding areas to offset carbon emissions from the Santa’s Sleigh event.

We asked the community to get creative and help us to design the information board for the Senses Garden and a logo for ‘Wallingford in Bloom’, which is judged annually in July. A big well done to our young artists, pictured on the left, whose illustrations are now a permanent feature in the garden.
