Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to help make a long-lasting change? Do you have innovative ideas for the council? Do you have concerns about a specific issue and want to do something about it? If this is you, then we need you. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community to put themselves forward for election. Make a change and become a councillor.
Wallingford town Council is a locally elected group of 16 people from a variety of backgrounds who volunteer their time as Councillors for the Wallingford area. We are very proud to have kept the town council politically neutral for the last 600 years and therefore we sit at 16 individuals doing the best we can for the town we love. There are 12 full council meetings over the course of the year each one lasting no more than three hours, in addition there are a number of sub committees within the council who focus on things such as, tourism and economic, parks and gardens, Finance, Planning and various others. You need to be over 18 years of age but there is no upper limit and local residents or business owners are welcome to stand for election.
The time is fast approaching when Wallingford is asked to elect a whole new Town Council as well as two new District Councillors. We are very excited to bring in some fresh innovation and would ask as many of you that can spare the time to consider stepping up to the role of a councillor. We actually have a lot of fun, most of the time and it is a great honour to be at the heart of the decisions that affect our Town and join in our civic and ceremonial events.

Why not come along to one of the events we will be organising in the run-up to elections to explain what we do at all levels of local government:
- Thursday 9th Feb 9pm: Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Wallingford live on Wallingford Radio
- Saturday 25th Feb 10am – 2pm: ‘Wallingford for All Day’ – meet the councillors at the Town Hall
- Thursday 2nd March – 7pm – 8pm: ‘Have a chat’ with councillors in the Town Hall
- Thursday 16th March – 7pm – 8pm: ‘Join us to complete the paperwork to become a councillor’ in the Town Hall
Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils (OALC) is holding a series of free online sessions via Zoom for those who are looking to become a councillor for the first time. The sessions are one hour long, no need to book, on:
- 13 February 10am-11am
- 15 March 2pm-3pm

Photo ID needed to vote at the local elections
The government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections.
This will apply for the first time at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.
Accepted forms of photo ID will include, but are not limited to, passport, driving licence (including provisional license), disabled parking blue badge, certain concessionary travel cards and proof of age cards with a PASS mark.
To help spread the word, the Electoral Commission have provided this Voter ID Resources Pack, which includes links to posters, copy for newsletters and other content that you can download.
Anyone who doesn’t have accepted photo ID can apply on the government’s website now for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate.
